tommy boy - fat guy in a little coat - Yahoo! Video

Hopefully this works, let me know.

It Happened on the way to Math...

As I was sitting on the grass waiting for all official-type stuff to be over. I kept thinking of the line from Tommy Boy where Chris Farley is saying "Fat man in a little coat", (I tried to upload the video clip couldn't figure it out, Crystal you must show me the ways of the blog force). Anyway, I am sitting there and thinking that big ladies should not be hit by little cars. The windshield will shatter, I am thinking it must be a law of some sort. The next thought that popped into my head was, does anyone ever get hit by a car gracefully? My immediate response was, UM NO, I DON'T THINK SO! So, it seems, I still have a little confidence issue that is lurking in the back of my brain saying YOU ARE A BIG DUFUSS, NO ONE GETS HIT BY A CAR WALKING ACROSS THE STREET, IN A CROSSWALK.

Yes, I was in a crosswalk (that's all I needed was to get hit and get a ticket for jaywalking),
heading north to math class, when a small red car starts going really fast heading south, starting to turn east. All I could think about was that car is going fast and I don't think he is going to stop. Sure enough the next moment, apparently as I am a little sketchy on the details, I am flying through the air hitting the windshield and flying off, landing on the road on my, now severely scraped and bruised knee, and my left hand. I got up immediately and walked over to the side of the road with the aid of my friend, Nema. Thinking to myself, I just got hit by a car. Needless to say I was a bit shaken' up, but I am doing remarkably well, considering that yes, it could have been much worse, as I and others keep reminding me.

I immediately went to find nurse mom to see if I actually needed to go to the hospital or not. I went and had a head scan and x-rays. Miraculously, I walked away with no broken bones, no head trauma, no neck or back injuries and no broken ribs. I owe this miracle to my backpack, which I think was in between me and the windshield, and heavy duty sweats, I could not find my flimsy little capriesses (Eryn's name for capri pants), which irritated me because I had just done laundry the day before and I knew I folded them and put them away. I had searched all morning for them. So because Wednesday is tennis class I put on the hot, heavy sweat pants.

So, in a nutshell that was my fate on Wednesday, September 19th at approximately 8:53 or so.

I would again like to thank all my friends for the dinners, visits and phone calls. Yes, Lauri, they even brought me some much craved for chocolate chip cookies.

I am blessed by a loving Heavenly Father, who protected me from more severe injuries and has allowed me to have such great family and friends to help me.

Thanks to all, especially Michael, who picked out the red onions.

They always say you should wear clean underwear so if you get in a car accident you won't be embarrased. Well, I am here to say you should also shave your legs.

Today I had a horrific experience, as I was walking to my math class I was hit by a car. I walked away with bruised and scraped legs (I had to uncover my hairy legs), a little bump above my right eye and some minor cuts on my fingers (small band-aid sized cuts). However, the trauma came after as I thought about all the things that could have happened. So I am going to get a little sappy and "count my blessings".

I am so very blessed to have such a great husband and children, no matter all the little troubles we have, I am still here to enjoy my family. Michael was headed to the library, cussing traffic because it had come to a stand still, when I phoned him to tell him that I had been hurt. He raced to my aid, my night in shining armour. How lucky am I that he was there to take care of me. He is such a blessing. I love you, Michael.

To my kids, who both had the same advice, "Mom"they said, "you need a crossing guard". They are such wonderful kids and sometimes I forget that, a little too easily. I love you, Payton and Eryn.

Second, I want to thank all my friends. I was very fortunate that one of my good friends was there and saw the whole thing, she immediately raced out of her car and was by my side. What a comfort that was. Since, I have had many phone calls to see how I am doing. I am so grateful that I am blessed with friendship in my life.

I am so grateful for my mom, who made phone calls to EMT's and Hospitals, to make sure I got they very best care. Love ya, mom.

Also, for my mother-in-law, who I know the minute she walked in my house was itching to clean something. Thank you for being there and taking the kids so I could get some rest.

I am so thankful to a loving Heavenly Father who watches out for us. He has given me so much and I am grateful that He was watching out for me and my family today.

Love to all. Julie

Summer Harvest via the Farmer's Market

Saturday, ended the last of my canning and jamming for the summer. It is always a mad rush to get everything done, but it is worth it to have homemade jam, peaches, and freezer corn in the middle of winter.

'Course my helpers are more interested in the critters than in helping.

But, what can you expect after shucking around 130 ears of corn.
We were up to our "ears" in corn! (I'm sorry, I can't help my "corny" remarks!)

So, after 130 ears of corn, 5 batches of raspberry jam and about 40 quarts of peaches, I'M DONE!!

There have been some requests to view my chore chart. Which I copied from the book, The Parenting Breakthrough. Here are some pics:

This is my main chore chart. As you can see I broke it up into two weeks. The kids alternate chores.

I then made 4x6 cards detailing every thing I want them to do for that chore. They can earn money for money chores only on Saturday.

I leave these cards by the chore chart so they can see what they need to do.

On the main chore chart are money values for the money chores. So they know how much they will recieve.

Labor Day at Little Lost

The trip to Little Lost this Labor day weekend is always a favorite. It seems I get one last weekend to have a little R&R. This is one of my favorite vistas, probably because all I need to do to see it is walk out the camp trailer door and sit in my camp chair.

Payton and Eryn are quite the fishermen. We came home with a lot of fish. This was just the first go round.
Eryn, undoubtely, is waxing eloquent on the finer points of fishing.

On Saturday, we hiked up to Iron Bog Lake, barely.

Payton and Eryn on top of a fallen tree. Look at the size of that root!

Scenes from our hike

This is a cool tree.

Payton staged this fall, he is a ham, loves having his picture taken.

Of course, she doesn't mind posing either.

Then off to my favorite greasy spoon "Pickle's Place" where they serve the best fried pickle's ever.

What a perfect weekend!
